Chamomile is known worldwide to be a calming sleep aid, a remedy to ease an upset stomach, and for its wonderful anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic properties (eases muscle spasms and relieves cramping). There are, however, many types of chamomile: Roman Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis), German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita), and true Moroccan Chamomile (Tanacetum annuum). The most common variety is German Chamomile. Our German Chamomile is extracted using the CO2 extraction method, making it a very beautiful and special oil. This extraction method does not use any heat in the process, therefore there is little or no change in the aroma of the dried herb. The heat of steam distillation causes a natural reaction in which the compound chamazulene changes into another compound, azulene; which in effect, creates a blue color. Our German Chamomile is actually in its natural green-brown color due to the fact that it is a CO2 total extract; it is solid at room temperature, so we dilute it in Organic Jojoba for ease of use. Our CO2 German Chamomile contains compounds with even stronger anti-inflammatory effects.
German and Moroccan Chamomile are recognized for their anti-inflammatory properties and have been known to help cure and treat allergies, dermatitis, eczema, inflamed joints, muscles, neuralgia, skin rashes and sprains.
Roman Chamomile also possesses anti-inflammatory properties; however, it is better known for its analgesic and sedative properties. Roman Chamomile is very mild and has shown to be safe when using it for children, especially children with nervous sleep patterns or insomnia. Other than the sedative properties in Roman Chamomile, it is highly anti-spasmodic. Roman Chamomile is also known for being useful in the treatment of anxiety, arthritis, anxious temperaments, muscular aches and pains, rheumatism, PMS and other menstrual conditions, stress, sleeplessness, and nervous tension.
With all of the differences of the chamomiles, they also share similarities. For example, some of the chamomiles are more effective for insomnia than other chamomiles, but they can all be used to treat insomnia; they all have some effectiveness in the treatment of acne, allergies, baldness and hair care, boils, abscesses, blisters, cuts & sores, dermatitis, dry & sensitive skin, eczema, insect bites, irritated & inflamed skin, rashes, toothaches, teething pain, wounds, arthritis, rheumatism, sprains, strains, colic, flatulence, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, cystitis, dysmenorrhea, premenstrual tension, headache, insomnia, nervous tension, stress-related conditions, tissue regeneration, neuralgia, and sciatica. It takes up to 25 kg raw material yield 1 kg of pure chamomile.
